Let’s start here:

Face fix blinds are installed over the window frame as opposed to inside the frame.

Face fix a.k.a outside mount refers to the mounting method.

It should be said that this is not the preferred mounting method for made-to-measure blinds but it’s sometimes the only option.

So then why do it?

Well, there are a couple of reasons:

The most common is that there are obstructions like door handles, burglar bars, or security gates that would prevent the blind from fitting inside the window frame.

Another reason might be that the window frame is skew which would create big gaps when the blind is hung inside the window frame.

It also depends on whether the blinds are made-to-measure or ready-made.

Ready-made blinds are standard sizes and aren’t made specifically to your measurements so the best solution is to buy a blind that is bigger than your window and hang it face fix.

It might also just come down to personal choice but whatever the reason, when it comes to buying blinds, the mounting type is an important consideration.

So let’s dive in and take a look at some of the pros and cons of face fix blinds.

Let’s start with the cons:

They don’t offer that custom fit look. Well, this is obvious. They don’t fit neatly inside the window so they don’t provide the same neat fit that recess blinds do.

They can be more expensive. If you are ordering made-to-measure blinds then face fix blinds are more expensive than recess blinds because they need to be bigger.

Now let’s take a look at the pros:

They can be cheaper. Like we mentioned earlier, ready-made blinds are significantly more affordable than made-to-measure blinds so if you are forced to mount your blinds face fix then ready-made blinds might be a great option.

They provide more natural light. Face fix blinds are hung above the window so when they are opened they reveal the whole opening which brings in more natural light.

Let’s summarise:

Face fix blinds are installed over the window opening as opposed to inside it.

They don’t provide the neat custom fit look that their recess fit counterpart do but if you opt for ready-made blinds they can offer a significant price saving.

They also tuck away neatly revealing more of the window, letting in more light.

The decision to mount your blinds face fix should be entirely determined by each specific window and what it allows.
